
Neil Johnson plays saxophone, flute, and clarinet as a freelance musician in New York City.
Comfortable in a variety of musical situations, Neil has played with New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center, with UK-based Sam and the WOMP at Glastonbury Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival with The Planet Smashers, and as a pit musician on many Broadway shows. In the theater, Neil has performed with Dee Dee Bridgewater (Lady Day, 2013), Harry Connick Jr (The Sting, 2018), Peter Dinklage (Cyrano, 2019), and in the Broadway orchestras of Prince of Broadway (2016), Mean Girls (2019-20) and currently for the new musical Some Like it Hot. He has toured in over 25 countries worldwide with ska legends The Toasters and as a sideman for many other bands. Some highlights from his many recording credits include the soundtrack to Pixar's Incredibles 2, Documentary Now! (IFC), the Tom Pierson Big Band Last Works and Sam and the WOMP's #1 UK hit Bom Bom.
Neil is passionate about teaching jazz improvisation and woodwinds, with 20 years' experience guiding others. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Neil holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, a Master’s degree in Multiple Woodwinds from New Jersey City University, and is a D'Addario Woodwinds artist.
